Communications and Community Manager

Foreside Community Church is seeking a detail-oriented part-time Communications and Community Manager to help us tell the story of our church’s life and ministry within our congregation and the wider community, manage our building as a resource for our mission, and create a welcoming office environment connecting and equipping volunteers and leaders. This position reports to the Pastor and works closely with ministry leaders, members of the congregation, and the public, including organizations and groups that use the church’s facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Help tell the story of our church’s ministry and mission both within our congregation and in the wider world:

  • Create and implement a communications calendar to share upcoming and past events through social media and other channels, reaching existing and new audiences.
  • Design, edit, and publish the worship bulletin for each Sunday in collaboration with worship staff and pastor.
  • Compile and distribute announcements, event invitations, and schedules to various audiences in the church through weekly and monthly communications and newsletters.
  • Maintain the church’s website (WordPress) and online calendar with up-to-date content.
  • In partnership with volunteers, collect photographs, testimonies, and other content to create rich narratives of the congregation’s impact and character.

Help make our building a resource for ministry and community for our church groups and others:

  • Keep and maintain a calendar of all functions making use of the church building and equipment. 
  • Serve as contact person for current tenants and for individuals or organizations wishing to use the building or equipment of the church.
    • Screen and coordinate all requests for use of rental space in the building according to policies, schedule of fees, building availability, and suitability of use.
    • Distribute, collect, and record rental agreements, fees, and certificates of insurance and other essential documents for renters.
  • Facilitate the identification of required maintenance, repair, or upgrades of facilities, and act as the liaison between cleaning / maintenance contractors and the Ministry of Building & Grounds. 
  • Order and maintain inventory for necessary cleaning / building supplies. 

Help our church office be a welcoming hub of information, service, and supplies to support our ministries:

  • Be a welcoming, respectful, and helpful presence to all in office visits, phone calls, and email inquiries, responding to and transferring contacts appropriately.  
  • Compile, distribute, and archive files, agendas, minutes, and reports of the congregation, its Governing Board, and ministries according to church policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain church membership records, mailing lists, and database. 
  • Purchase and maintain supplies needed for the church office and ministries of the church and related gatherings and events. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to shape content and voice for different audiences
  • Proficiency with necessary computer software and platforms:
    • basic graphic design and layout (Canva, InDesign, etc.)
    • WordPress website editing and updating
    • Microsoft Office suite
    • Email newsletters 
  • Comfort with creating content for social media platforms in an organizational voice
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Comfort working respectfully within a diverse, welcoming faith community

Time Commitment: approximately 20-25 hrs/week, with mutually agreed upon office hours, the option of remote work, and occasional flexibility to support events.
Compensation: $24/ hr
Benefits: PTO accrual per Employee Handbook.
