Make note of the following programs and ways to become involved in deepening
your Christian faith and discipleship:
Cever
Youth Sponsorship
Our
congregation has a new and exciting opportunity to connect
with the people of Honduras. As many of you already know, the
Maine Conference of the UCC has a partnership with a Honduran
denomination; this Honduran church directs a vocational/technical
school called CEVER (acronym for a Spanish name). This school
provides training for some of the few good-paying jobs available
in Honduras. The youth who attend CEVER receive a sense of
empowerment in addition to their new skills. Tuition is symbolic,
which enables youth from the surrounding rural area to participate.
The
Maine Conference of the UCC, in partnership with CEVER and the Honduran
church association, has developed a sponsorship program for CEVER students.
Sponsors (Padrinos, Godparents) agree to support CEVER by sponsoring
a student for three years at a cost of $60/month and $10/quarter administrative
fee. Padrinos also agree to write quarterly letters to the student.
The
Ministry of Outreach will sponsor one student beginning this year.
You are encouraged to participate by directing donations toward this
project (cost will be $750/year for three years), adopting a student
on your own, volunteering to write a section of one of the quarterly
letters to the student, or committing to support the CEVER program
in your prayers.
